Hydrocolloid

Hydrocolloid is an absorbent patch material that helps protect a spot + absorb surface fluid while creating a covered environment for healing.

Absorbs surface fluid from a blemish, helps protect the spot from touching + picking, and creates a covered environment while skin recovers.

Hydrocolloid is the absorbent material behind many pimple patches. Originally used in wound dressings, hydrocolloid interacts with surface fluid to create a soft gel within the patch.

On spot-prone skin, a hydrocolloid patch works best on surfaced blemishes — think whiteheads or spots that have come to a head. The patch covers the area while absorbing fluid + helping keep hands away from the spot.

That little cloudy or white area you see on a used pimple patch? That's the hydrocolloid interacting with fluid from the blemish.

Hydrocolloid is not an exfoliating acid or traditional spot-treatment active. Think of it as targeted spot support: cover, absorb + leave the damn spot alone.

For deeper, under-the-skin blemishes, a hydrocolloid patch may have less to absorb at the surface. That's where the rest of your clarifying routine matters.

Apply to clean, completely dry skin over a surfaced spot or whitehead. Leave on until the patch turns cloudy or begins to lift, then remove + replace as needed. Skip skincare underneath the patch so the hydrocolloid can adhere directly to skin.
